Meet Alexis, Champion for Robocup Junior Singapore Cospace Dance 2015
17 September 2015
Creative and with a strong passion for the arts, Alexis Loh is not your typical coder. Alexis has always had an interest for the arts but it was not until recently when she was introduced to coding during CCA at Raffles Girls' School did she also develop an interest in technology. The combination of her interests in both the arts and technology has led her to compete and win in the Robocup Junior Singapore CoSpace Dance competition back in March. The competition required students to integrate technology and arts in a performance with robots that could dance and sing. Alexis does not think that "art and technology should be separate" and would like more people to become aware of this intersectionality.
At only 14, Alexis already has ideas for how the arts and technology can be fused together to create something even more magical such as moving sculptures or extravagant light shows. One of her favourite is the "Kinetic rain" sculpture in Changi Airport, which is the world's largest kinetic art sculpture. In 2016, Alexis has plans to compete in the international Odyssey of the Mind competition where she will have the chance to work on a team to solve a creative problem using both art and technology.
