The IT Standards Committee is organising a public seminar on enabling smart cities through standardisation. The seminar is being held in conjunction with the hosting of the ISO/IEC JTC1 Working Group 11 (Smart Cities) first meeting in Singapore.

JTC1 WG11 is an international standardisation Working Group under the Joint Technical Committee on Information Technology, established by ISO and IEC. It is responsible for developing foundational standards for the use of ICT in smart cities - including the ICT Reference Framework and an Upper Level Ontology for Smart Cities - for guiding Smart Cities efforts throughout JTC 1 upon which other standards can be developed.

The overseas delegates from WG11 as well as local speaker will share on the standards, technologies and pilot projects of smart cities.

The IT Standards Committee is organising a public seminar on sensor networks and the Internet of Things (IoT). The seminar is being held in conjunction with the hosting of the ISO/IEC JTC1 Working Group 7 (Sensor networks) meeting in Singapore.

JTC1 WG7 is an international standardisation Working Group under the Joint Technical Committee on Information Technology, established by ISO and IEC. It is responsible for developing and facilitating standards for sensor networks.

We have invited overseas delegates from WG7 as well as local speakers to share on the standards, technologies and applications of sensor networks and IoT.

During the training sessions, students will learn how to code simple scripts that will control motion and sound in their Scratch projects. They will also learn how to remix existing projects to meet specific challenge requirements.  Best of all, they get to build their own physical controllers (using various conductive materials and a MaKey MaKey) that will interact with their remixed Scratch project and play with it.

This training is for children 12 years and below only (born on or after 1 Jan 2001).

During the training session, participants will learn how to build simple sensor circuits using breadboard and electronic components and write Arduino Uno sketches to control the circuits that they have built. They will explore basic sensors such light, temperature & distance sensing and control various actuators like LEDs and servo motors. This session is useful for those with little experience with microcontroller programming and electronics.
